Upward Sports

 Upward Families,

We want to thank you for the awesome word of mouth advertising you've done for us.  We've already had a few inquiries about a 2010 Upward Soccer Season.  That just tells us that we must have done something right for you to recommend us to your friends and neighbors.

It is with both joy and sadness that we must skip the spring season of Upward Soccer this year.  2010 is going to be a rebuilding year for the Village Church at Holly Springs.  We are in the midst of a pastor search and are excited to see what God has in store for us.  In order to make this happen, we feel that we need to give our utmost attention to this process.  Please keep us in prayer as we seek God's will for our church.  We will miss spending the coming months with our Upward family.

We will almost certainly be back again for a Spring 2011 season.  We'll keep you all informed via emails and our web site as always, so please check in frequently.  As far as I know Kennebec Baptist Church in Angier is the only local church doing Soccer this spring.  Please give them a call if you are interested.  I got this info from the Upward.org web site, so feel free to go there and do a search of your own if you are interested in other sports.

We really appreciate the support you have all shown us over the years.  Your prayers now are most welcome.  If you'd like to stop in and see us, we are meeting at our Church House at 724 W. Holly Springs Rd. with Sunday service starting at 10:30am.  We have men's and women's groups meeting as well if you are interested.

Thank you,
Chris Brown

About Upward Soccer

Upward Sports are a great way for children to learn about teamwork, respect for authority and sportsmanship.  The sad part is all those things are being lost in today’s sporting society. With an Upward sport, these key essentials are included to create the best sporting experience for every child that participates.  Each Upward Sport is designed to reveal the winner in every child.  Every child plays. Every child learns.  Every child IS a Winner!

Upward promotes character and self-esteem in every child by:

  • Providing an evaluation system that promotes equal teams and opportunities
  • Establishing a one-hour practice and game each week
  • Implementing a substitution system for each team, allowing every child equal playing time
  • Creating the opportunity for every child to learn the skills of the game
The emphasis is placed on having fun and good sportsmanship, not the scoreboard and standings.

Frequently Asked Questions <back to the top>

Q: When is your soccer season?
A: We play in the spring.  Registration usually starts in January, so check back then for more information.

Q: How will children be divided into teams?
A: We are using the child’s school grade to make up teams.

Q: Will teams be co-ed?
A: No. We will have gender specific teams again this year.  The only exception would be if we couldn't field a specific league with enough players and we had to consolidate.

Q: My child will change grades during the season.
Which league should he/she register for?

A: Whatever grade they will be in on April 25th (first game).

Q: My child will be in between grades on April 25th.
Should I register them for the grade they finished, or the one they are going into?

A: Register them for the grade they just finished.*

* The only exception is for rising Kindergartners.
If your child will be in Kindergarten any time in calendar 2009, they can register for the Instructional League.

Q: Do you offer any help with organizing a carpool?
A: Nothing formal at this time.
We will of course do anything we can to put families in touch with each other if they express an interest in carpooling.

Q: Do we offer Flag Football, Basketball or Cheerleading?
A: Not at this time.
We are concentrating on Soccer currently, but you never know what the Lord has in store us in the future.

Q: What is the practice and game schedule?
A: Practices will be M-Th and games on Saturdays.  Actual practice days won't be determined until after the Evaluation Day.
Team calendars will be distributed on the first practice day.

Q: Is the Skills Evaluation a “try-out” to play?
A: Absolutely not.  We won’t be turning anyone away from a chance to play and share Christ’s message.
The evaluations are simply objective tools that will allow us to identify the skill level of each player in order to create equally competitive teams.

Q: What if my child cannot make the Evalution Day?
A: We will have a make-up day on March 3rd.

Q: Do my children need any special equipment to play?
A: The only thing we will require children to have is shin guards.  Soccer cleats, socks and a ball are recommended, but not required to play.  If your child needs anything, check with local sports stores for any specials they may be running.  Dicks sporting goods for example, has offered package deals in the past at a good price.

Q: What size ball does my child need?
A: SIZE 3 (K4, K5-1st); SIZE 4 (2nd-3rd, 4th-6th)
